Heavy industrial flyover platform with Walraven Maxx
A customer required an industrial flyover platform for six pumps in a large boiler hall. Existing pipework and electrical installations already occupied much of the available space. Walraven developed a bespoke solution using the Walraven Maxx system. The platform provided safe access while maintaining the functionality of the surrounding services.
Solving access and installation challenges
The project presented a significant challenge at a late stage of construction. The platform needed to accommodate grating, safety barriers and installations while fitting into a heavily congested area.
The solution had to be assembled without interfering with existing pipework and electrical systems, while still providing adequate access to equipment and fittings throughout the area.
Tailor-made platform solution
To overcome these constraints, Walraven engineers developed a bespoke platform using the Walraven Maxx system, a bolted, modular heavy-duty solution designed for large industrial structures.
The platform consists of a flyover structure connected to the hall walls and floor, with mounting locations selected according to accessibility requirements and load-bearing capacity. Measuring approximately 6 x 12 metres, the platform was designed to support a characteristic load of 4 kN/m² while providing access for maintenance activities and supporting additional piping and electrical installations.
The solution incorporated Walraven Maxx profiles up to MX150 (100x150x4.0), combined with the Walraven RapidStrut® system for gratings, safety barriers and substructures for services and equipment.
Efficient installation
The use of a bolted fastening system allowed the platform to be installed efficiently within the confined space. The modular approach also made it possible to work around existing pipework and accommodate minor clashes without extensive modifications.
The result is a robust and flexible access platform that supports ongoing maintenance activities and enables the safe integration of additional building services within the boiler hall.
