Fixing systems for the entrance of the Heineken Experience
As part of the renovation of the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam, the former stables were transformed into an impressive new welcome area. To bring the architect’s vision to life, Walraven developed a bespoke fixing solution capable of safely suspending 11,000 Heineken bottles from the ceiling.
Creating a unique visitor experience
Heineken wanted to create a spectacular entrance for visitors entering the Heineken Experience Centre. Architect Ideal Projects designed a concept featuring thousands of illuminated Heineken bottles suspended from the ceiling to create a striking visual effect.
To bring this vision to life, contractor Salverda turned to Walraven to develop a fixing solution that could securely support all 11,000 bottles while remaining practical to install within the renovated building. As a result, Walraven developed a bespoke fixing solution tailored to the project’s specific requirements.
Developing a bespoke fixing solution
To meet the project’s requirements, Walraven designed, manufactured and partially prefabricated a custom-made solution consisting of two elements: a bottle fixing component and a ceiling mounting system.
For the bottle fixing, Walraven worked to develop a specially designed rubber insert. The insert is placed inside the neck of the bottle and tightened using a bolted connection. As a result, the insert expands and locks securely into position, providing a reliable fixing while remaining easy to assemble.
For the ceiling mounting system, Walraven developed a customised Walraven RapidRail® fixing rail solution used in combination with Walraven Hammerfix connectors.
Efficient installation and multifunctional design
The lobby’s walls and ceiling feature a double-wall construction with openings specifically designed for the bottles. Using the customised Walraven RapidRail® system, the installation team installed rows of bottles efficiently and accurately throughout the space.
Furthermore, in addition to supporting the bottles, the team used the fixing rails to secure lighting points, creating a multifunctional installation that combined aesthetics and practicality.
Delivering a bespoke fixing solution for the Heineken Experience
Through close collaboration with Salverda during the testing and development phases, Walraven delivered a tailored fixing solution. The solution transformed the architect’s vision into reality.
The result is a distinctive entrance feature that welcomes visitors with thousands of suspended Heineken bottles, creating an unforgettable first impression at one of Amsterdam’s most popular attractions.
