IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre conducts research mainly in supercomputing and embedded computing systems. It operates state-of-the-art technologies and services in this area and makes them available to Czech and foreign research teams from academia and industry. Since its construction, it has been part of the international network of supercomputing centres known as PRACE, and its team members are internationally recognised experts.
Walraven was approached to design a solution without anchoring because of the use of “conductive concrete”, which protects the building from electromagnetic interference. This shield cannot be perforated in any case.
An installation solution was required to support the pipes responsible for cooling the supercomputer memory and processors and the fire protection system. These pipes would be carrying ‘warm’ water. The proposed solution also needed to allow the use of waste heat to warm the building and prepare hot water. The solution should also be able to support pipes with “cold” water and chilled air units for the fire protection system.
Walraven recommended using its rooftop support systems, Walraven Yeti® and RapidStrut®, to create structures for securing the cooling distribution system without the need for anchoring into the concrete. This solution was installed inside the data hall beneath the raised floor, in the cooling machinery room, and outside on the roof. There is no need to use two different solutions for inside and outside; this solution is suitable for both!
