Walraven has launched a new low emission strut channel – Walraven RapidStrut® LE, delivering up to 59% lower carbon emissions. This lower-carbon strut product helps M&E contractors reduce embodied carbon without compromising performance or changing the way systems are installed.
As the construction industry faces increasing pressure to reduce the embodied carbon of buildings, the choice of materials and components is becoming increasingly important. Strut channel probably accounts for the largest percentage of steel used in M&E installations, and now there is an option to generate significant carbon reductions.
The reason we can produce strut channel with a lower carbon footprint, is primarily down to the production process.
The channel is manufactured using 100% recycled steel, fossil-free electricity, biofuels and bio-coal. It is also 100% recyclable at end of life.
Despite the lower-emission production process, there is no performance trade-off. Walraven RapidStrut® LE channel has the same strength and technical characteristics as the standard Walraven RapidStrut® channel and remains fully compatible with the system accessories.
Walraven RapidStrut® LE is currently available in two channel options:
According to the product’s third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), the low emission strut channel achieves substantial reductions in cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) CO₂ emissions compared with the standard Walraven RapidStrut® equivalents:
Walraven RapidStrut® LE has been developed to support consultants, contractors, installers and building owners looking to reduce the carbon impact of their projects.
Its verified environmental data can contribute towards BREEAM and LEED sustainability objectives, client carbon reduction targets and corporate ESG reporting requirements.
For projects where embodied carbon is becoming an increasingly important consideration, Walraven RapidStrut® LE low emission strut offers a straightforward way to make a lower-carbon material choice for building services installations.
