Walraven CZ project IT4 Innovations data centre

IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre conducts research mainly in supercomputing and embedded computing systems. It operates state-of-the-art technologies and services in this area and makes them available to Czech and foreign research teams from academia and industry. Since its construction, it has been part of the international network of supercomputing centres known as PRACE, and its team members are internationally recognised experts.

Challenge: Bespoke supports for data centre cooling system

Walraven was approached to design supports for the data centre cooling distribution system as well as a warm water system that allowed the use of waste heat to warm the building and prepare hot water. Neither system could be anchored into the floor surface because it was made of conductive concrete. This special concrete protects the building from electromagnetic interference and therefore could not be perforated.

Solution: Non-penetrative support system

We created a design using our Walraven Yeti® support feet and Walraven RapidStrut® channel system in BIS UltraProtect® 1000 finish. Walraven Yeti® are high load support feet that do not need anchoring into the concrete, and the BUP 1000 finish on the channel system provides some resistance to zinc whisker growth.

This solution was installed inside the data hall beneath the raised floor, in the cooling machinery room, and outside on the roof. There is no need to use two different solutions for inside and outside; this solution is suitable for both!
